Top 10 winter wedding trends 2014-2015

01 Dec Top 10 winter wedding trends 2014-2015

Magical and cosy a winter wedding is one of our favourite seasons and we love the latest trends making an appearance at this year’s winter weddings. Mix traditional elements with modern twists to achieve this year’s winter wedding look.

1) Winter colour theme.

Mix traditional colour palettes of ivory and dark greens with with dusky pastel accents such as blush pink or sage for a subtle lift and to help steer away from a more Christmassey look. The Great Gatsby 1920’s art deco look is still incredibly popular and is perfect for a glamorous winter theme with mixing black and gold together.

2) Metallic and beaded cakes.

Carry the art deco look through to the cake with metallic highlights of rose gold, gold, copper and silver in geometric designs. Style your cake with silver beads to give your cake a hint of shimmer and top off with oversized flowers in a deep burgundy red. Finish off the look by perching your cake on a tree trunk base for that rustic edge or on a pretty ornate metallic base. The cake featured here is by Krishanthi and we’ll be releasing an interview post with her in the next few weeks!

3) Wedding favours.

Give your guests a cosy reminder of your winter woodland themed wedding with marshmallows and chocolate to warm up at home.

4) Winter decor.

Add a touch of glamour with black sequin tablecloths and velvet blanket covers to keep our guests warm. Create a lodge feel with stag heads or giant snow globes as centrepieces. Add some fun to your wedding photos with night time shots of your guests holding sparklers and creating heart shapes in the air.

5) Long sleeve wedding dresses.

Keep arms warm and add some sophistication to a wedding dress with long sleeves. Pair with a faux fur caplet for a vintage look or a leather jacket with fur lining to add unexpected toughness to a pretty dress. Another way to achieve this look is to follow in the steps of Olivia Palmero and pair a long sleeve turtleneck with a full ballgown skirt in pastel blue.

6) Drinks - Baileys hot chocolate.

Serve up hot drinks to your guests to keep them warm during cocktail hour. Hot chocolate will always be favourite for a winter wedding especially mixed with Baileys or peppermint to add to the flavour. If chocolate is too rich then swap with mulled cider and fresh slices of apple.

7) Invitations.

We love how cute this pop up invitation is, bringing the invite to life and fitting in with a winter woodland theme. The right invitation should fit in with your chosen theme and set the tone of the wedding come.

8) Bridesmaid dresses.

Black will always be a traditional colour for bridesmaids dresses during winter weddings, by why not add a twist and mix it with a more neutral palette by adding black beading to a champagne colour dress? Add volume to the hair with big curls and wear with berry lips.

9) Berry buttonholes.

Keep your groom stylish with a buttonhole fitting of the winter woodland theme. Choose berries in a deep colour to add an accent of colour to the suit and to match burgundy colour accents used throughout the wedding.

10) Flowers.

Add texture to your centrepiece flowers and create an enchanted forest theme look by adding ferns and moss to blush pink flowers. Add sage herbs to match in with the winter colour palette on trend right now - sage and blush colours.
